July

1. What did you do on the 4th of July?: Went to a party at Wiley's and shot off my first model rocket, which I promptly lost.

2. Went on any vacations during this month?: No, but did I mention The Dominican Republic? :-) And somewhere in here I went to New York for the weekend to meet up with Eric and see my grandma, which was also cool.

August

1. Did you do anything special to end off your summer? Went to La Romana with my best friend Lindsay, turned 22, and moved to Boston.

2. What was your favorite summer memory of '05?: Finally going out! Being introduced to Carlos O'Kelley's and karaoke, Auld Shebeen (formerly Ned's), and Mr. Days'. Hanging out with Madelyn, Natalie, and the crew. Getting Lindsay up to speed, and not doing too shabby myself (yay for 28 year olds!).

3. What do you want this year for christmas?: Hockey gear, Trader Joe's gift certificates, bathrobe, sleeping bag

4. What's the best present you ever got for Christmas?: I don't know if I can think of a favorite. Most everything has been really special to me.

5. Do you like cold weather?: Yeah but maybe not January in Boston...we'll see about that

6. How would you rate your 05(1-10)?: Overall I'd give it a 9.5. There were a few pitfalls that brought it down (the first week on Jan, the end of Feb, some weeks of schoolwork, and a few other tough moments), but I have had a ton of fun this year. From graduating to living with Lindsay at home, to moving to Boston and LOVING it, it can't get much better.

A double purging

Christmas was great this year. While Thanksgiving provided a crowded house (which is good too), Christmas was more relaxed than it's ever been. All the MIT gear went over well, and there were a few surprises for my parents that I pulled out of my sleeve at the last minute too.
We're getting our carpet replaced, and I'm sitting here looking at my half-dismantled room, wondering how much I can force myself to get rid of. Next to me is my light brite I got just a few years ago, and that could come in handy for something fun anytime! I have an overflow of stuffed animals, but I don't like to get rid of them unless I can't remember what they're from, and I've already done that purge. And how about the knick-knacks which look cute here, but I would never decorate my real house with them. But they're special to me. Can I please get rid of my packrat genes? My mother is itching to get in here with a large trash bag, but I won't allow that yet.

As for the last post, you might be wondering what happened. I still was thinking the same stuff after a few more days, so I talked to him, and it was good to clear those thoughts out of my head and with him. I don't know if I feel any better, but thank you for listening and understanding.

Forget it

So what I really need to do I just convince myself that it's the history that I miss and that it's a ridiculous thought to even contemplate that again. That trail has been trodden, and it's no longer for me. I know there are plenty of reasons that I'm thinking all this even though I'm extremely happy, but that's not a conversation for blogger because this is already too much information. But for you and me? Definitely, just let me know when.

First ski of the season

Not only was this the first ski trip of the season, but this was the first time I've been skiin gin 8 years! I went to Sunday River this past weekend with D and his roommate, and we stayed at the Snowriders ski cabin. I had a great time with the fellas, and D and I finally DTRed (Defined the Relationship, for all you non-GTers) and decided this was just a fun weekend and that's that. Even though I know that's probably the best for me, and I'm ok with it, it's never the best conversation to have. But it was a damn good weekend! Now it's time to pack, finish a million little things, and head home tomorrow!
In ski news, the conditions were pretty good, and it snowed today, so while it was cold, there was some fresh powder. It was great skiing with everyone because they pushed me to go on runs I could handle but was scared to. I have more faith in myself and less fear of heights, but I still stay faaar away from the trees. And I thought about Melissa M. a lot today since it's the first time I'd been skiing since she died. We miss you.

Partying and Thinking don't tend to go together

My I don't really have any cohesive thoughts at the moment, but I didn't want Rebekah to have to study (see the last blog's comments), so I had to post. Classes nearly over, so last week was a hellish week of projects and papers for my classes. But there was nowhere near as much stress as there ever was at GT. It's times like these, though, that I feel guilty for not taking another class this semester. Funny how I can feel guilty, yet the semester is almost over.

Surprisingly, MIT has made me a more relaxed and party-type person. I think it all started when we went out to the city or some sort of social event during orientation for 10 straight days. Maybe that marathon helped me build up my stamina for being around people. Now, we're doing something as a group both nights every weekend, which was a rare occasion for me at GT (man I sound like a fun person). I was thinking about this last night, when, after getting home from a friend's place around midnight, instead of going to bed, I went back out when a friend called and invited me to a party. I knew that I would get less sleep, have to walk in the snow, and have to be social and meet new people, but I went, and it was awesome. I really like the new, more relaxed Biff, and I hope I can keep this up next semester.

And now to the jumble of thoughts, that, of course, deals with boys. So what I really need to do is stop being a hypocrite and actually communicate with boys about what's going on between us. Instead, I feel like I don't want to be too pushy, or I want to wait until it's a little more obvious or the guy has something to say. There are other issues too - when you're already friends, you don't want to make it awkward by bringing those sorts of issues up and then end up not being on the same wavelength, but then you just wonder. I value communication in a relationship, but I myself am not very good at communicating at the beginning. I guess I should be more confident, but I'm afraid opening my mouth will mess things up. Any comments out there on this one?

Laryngitis

So the slightly sore throat and the little rasp in my voice has turned into laryngitis caused by a viral respiratory infection. I don't know why, but I think this is ridiculously funny. Maybe because I can't really answer my phone, speak loud enough for people to hear me across the room, etc., yet I went to a bar last night to meet ACC Alumni (and probably made it worse; oh well). I've had Mary and Lucy be my secretary because I can't really answer the phone, so I could at least get used to that. ha. Anyways, for anyone who ever thought laryngitis was one of the more amusing and not so bad sicknesses, I promise it's not. And yay for one of the busiest weeks of the semester. Riiiiiight.

Best Friends Reunited

This is proof that it's a small world out there. When I lived in Las Vegas from 1986-1989, I was best friends with a girl named Janna. We were attached at the hip. This past weekend, I was hanging out with my friend Bryan, who also grew up in Vegas. We were messing around on facebook, and I told him to enter a friend of mine. I told him to type in "Janna", which he did, and then I told him the last name was "McCoy"
When he heard me say that, he grabbed my shoulders and shook me and yelled "You know Janna McCoy!?!?!", and I thought he was joking around. However, he went to high school with her and even hung out with her this past summer! We called her that night, but she was at a basketball game, so we tried again today, and we were finally able to catch up. I hadn't talked to her in like 10 years, so we talked about school, family, boys, Las Vegas growing up, etc.

Totally cool, but totally weird.
