A Jaunt to New York City

Before I rehash more of my exciting past, let's jump to the present. Or at least very recent past. Just after the start of winter break, as I was nervously awaiting grades to come out, my boyfriend Joey IMed me and said they had an extra spot in their trip NYC and asked if I wanted to come along. Of course! As Livia pointed out to me, when else can I get up and leave for a weekend with two days' notice and actually have some fun. At this point, I was a little wary because the other people on the trip were Joey's friends from high school, and I didn't want to feel like an intruder. I'm sure everyone has those feelings at some point as we make new friends and have to introduce them to old one, but why let those things bother me? Everything was fine. So we took the Chinatown bus on Friday from DC to NY (real sketch), and after a long and hungry ride (bring food with you on the bus if you ever take one!), we arrived in NYC.

We did a lot of touristy things like the Statue of Liberty, the Metropolitan Museum of Art (where they were nice enough to give us all free entrance because I had my military ID), Rockefeller Center, Central Park, Times Square, etc.

On our last night there, we went to a Mexican restaurant for dinner. We were sitting in the back of the restaurant, when none other but this man came and sat at the table next to us:

(If you're slow, this is Kelly, the Apprentice 2 winner)
This was only my second celebrity sighting (the first was when we saw Bono at the restaurant we ate at for Prom). We didn't let on that we knew who he was, and I tried convincing our group that we should take a picture and happen to get him in the background, but no luck.
We left the next morning and just made the bus (they literally pulled away the second we stepped on), and the return trip was much better because of less traffic. (Oh gosh I hate traffic. Darius still hates me for it, but I once turned around from driving to visit him in VA Beach because there was too much traffic.)
So my lessons learned that weekend:
NYC is a lot of fun, but I don't think I want to live there
Patience is something I still lack, but I think I am getting better at dealing with things either out of my control or that just don't really matter. So now the real question is do I have patience when things are in my control or do really matter? And what really matters anyway? Maybe a topic for another blog...
I can deal with the cold, so maybe going to graduate school at MIT or Colorado wouldn't be too horrible

A Summary of Me

So where to begin my hopefully not too long summary of where I have been these past 21 years?
If you want the really quick version, Lindsay says I: study, sleep, flirt, and work out, with a little eating thrown in there too.
For a little more information...
Quickly through the old stuff: I was born in Maryland (lived in Virginia) an Army brat, and I also lived in Las Vegas and Houston before moving back to Virginia. I admit I was a chubby little kid until I got into middle school, so I won't embarass myself with any of those pictures. But how about one of my parents, because they rock.

I went to Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology, only the coolest magnet school. Other than studying in high school, I was in the marching band (and a drum major for 2 years), crew, and gymnastics. I still hang out with my high school friends when I'm home because they are some of the best people I know, and there is no replacing them!

I am now at Georgia Tech as an Aerospace Engineering major and Spanish minor.

So at Tech, here are some of the things I do:
Gymnastics!

Sorority things

Women's Leadership stuff

Hang out with my awesome roommates Jen, Melissa, Emily, Kristy, and Katie (and honorary roommate, Livia)

In college I have co-oped at Jet Propulsion Laboratory in California, studied abroad in Mexico and Spain, worked at the Aerospace Systems Design Lab, and interned at The Aerospace Corporation. I'm going off to graduate school in the fall, so there will undoubtedly be more blogs about that.

Maybe I'll get on my soapbox for a minute to tell you to study abroad. I did the Language for Business and Technology Program. We stayed 4 weeks in Mexico City and 4 weeks in Madrid and then toured Italy and Paris afterward. I, of course, learned a lot about Spanish and the business and got to tour new and famous places, but living with a family and becoming part of another culture was very influential on my life. It's true that studying abroad in college is a once in a lifetime opportunity, so do it!

I love Dave Matthews Band, Maroon 5, and Marc Broussard. I went to a Marc Broussard concert in November, and it was my first concert I went to by myself, which at first was scary. Nonetheless, it was AMAZING. There are sound clips on his website, so go listen. As for Maroon 5, I hope you've heard of them by now. I started listening to them because of a boy (go figure), and again, SO GOOD. Jen works for the Technique and she managed to get to interview Maroon 5, Marc Broussard, and Gavin Degraw, and stand in the front row, and she brought me along as her photographer. Sweet deal I tell ya.

So that's all I have for right now. If you think I need to add something to my summary here, let me know. :-)

I arrive in the blogging world

So I have been sucked somewhat willingly, somewhat unwillingly into creating a blog. I've never been much of a blog reader (Eric has to inform me when my roommates have particularly sad blogs so I can go talk to them), so I wonder why this new realm has attracted me. I suppose I want to write down all my personal feelings and beliefs, not post some of them for fear of any backlash that might ensue, and then hope that people will read and sympathize with the ones that do make it to my blog. Or maybe it's that I'm at home without my roommates whom I normally tell everything, and I feel like I need to talk to someone. Or myself.

I don't know quite what I want my blog to be, but I hope that it will be more than my sixth grade journal where I just wrote about the boys that I had crushes on. While that provides for entertaining reading nowadays (I can't believe how I could change my crush every day, literally!), I hope for something a little more meaningful -- at least to me.

So what is to come?, you may wonder. Well I think pictures are fun, so I think I'll put a little life summary up, with pictures to accompany my thrilling story. And if you want more pictures, go to www.ofoto.com, the username is biffbabe@hotmail.com, and IM me at 'biffbabe' for the password.
