Tagged

First, thank you for the comments. I love hearing from you!
Second, I saw this on Chris Baucom's blog, and I thought it would be fun.

ten years ago:
October 1995
I had just started seventh grade at Lake Braddock - a school with 3000 students from 7th to 12th grade and 1/4 mile long. Walking through the upperclassmen halls was kind of intimidating as I hovered right around 5 feet. I remember seeing the internet for the first time, having my first and and only cigarette, writing notes in class to Amy with secret pen names that we thought were impenetrable, and continuing my crushes on percussionists (which started in 6th grade with Joey). I loved watching Oprah, spending too much time in AOL chat rooms at Kristin's house, and learning gymnastics.

five years ago:
October 2000
This was my senior at Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology (TJ, for short). I was drum major of the marching band, VP of band council, tutoring, and dating Chris (for 2 years at that point). I was busy applying for Georgia Tech and MIT as well as a bunch of scholarships for college. I can think of some other notable things that make me smile about October 2000, but you'll just have to ask me about those.

one year ago:
October 2004
Last year I was a senior at Georgia Tech. I was spending a lot of my time practicing with (and finally not being president of) the gymnastics team, starting up the Aerospace Student Advisory Council, going to Bible study, working my butt of in space design, doing research at the Aerospace Systems Design Lab, and being involved in ODK, Tau Beta Pi, etc. After that laundry list, it seems I wouldn't have time for the rest of my awesome senior year, but I managed. October was full of spending quality time at the mansion and partying with the best roommates ever. Yay for 207. October was Jen's birthday, and we all did our first keg stands! And we were well on our way to 100. ;-)

yesterday:
I worked in the morning for a few hours on research then went to rueda (my new favorite activity - it's a form of salsa) practice from 12-2. I came back, had lunch, then biked to City Life church with Sean, where we met up with Kara and Jean Paul for an awesome service. After a little more work, I made some of my favorite ravioli for Ryan and myself, then we went to Shaw's (ok, maybe not the most exciting part of the day, but I did get a bag of the Halloween candy corn mix), and I finished off the night with some quality time with a cute boy. :-)

five snacks I enjoy:
yogurt
pita chips
anything chocolate
frozen yogurt with lots of different toppings
peanut butter on graham crackers

five songs I know all the words to:
"Home" by Marc Broussard
"Crash" by Dave Matthews Band
"A Dios Le Pido" by Juanes
"A Whole New World" from Aladin
"Sweet Caroline" by Neil Diamond

five things I would do with a million dollars:
Invest some
Give some to various charities
Buy my parents a log cabin
Take a tour of Europe
Buy a house

five things I would never wear:
a cup
you know, seriously, i can't think of anything I would never wear.

five bad habits:
working too hard, although not here it seems
worrying about money
?? maybe you can tell me?

five favorite toys:
lol, i don't think i can mention my favorite ones...
cell phone
computer (how nerdy are we??)
the skis I just bought
my Mars lego rover set that I have yet to put together
my car, because it is AWESOME

Miss Independence

Sometimes I fear I'm losing my independence and relying too much on closer friends for my source of fun. But then things like tonight happen. I planned a salsa night out - found a place that has 2 hours of lessons for all levels, sent the appropriate e-mails, etc., and I got 4 people saying they wanted to go. Then one by one they all backed out. Everyone. And I'm not complaining about that - I understand why and don't hold it against them. But I haven't been out to salsa in quite a while, and this was my only chance for the next few weeks, so I went. And I had a blast.
I've been taking rueda (a form of salsa) lessons here at MIT for a month now, and I joined the advanced group tonight at the club for the first hour. Then we had an hour salsa lesson, and then I danced for 3 more hours, pretty much continuously. One nice thing about salsa clubs is that people aren't afraid to ask other people to dance, the guys really aren't that sketchy (in most clubs), and they have to keep their distance! And at the end of the night, I got asked out on a date. ;-)

I was a little nervous about going alone, not knowing anyone at the club, but it was awesome and nothing to worry about. I should remember this when there are other things I want to try out but no one brave/crazy enough to go with me.

Uninspired

I haven't been feeling inspired at all lately to write in my blog, and I'm still not feeling it. Maybe I'm not motivated to write about things going on here because so many things are going on that it's overwhelming, and I don't know if anyone here reads this, so it's now fun to give people shout-outs.
But some cool things are coming up - Eric comes this weekend, and Melissa comes the following weekend (along with Brian, Leo, and lots of other GT friends), then I go home the following weekend for Eric and Cheryl's wedding!
I also bought skis off of Craig's list but haven't cleaned them up, so there are no pictures yet. But they are shaped Rossignols from 2002 with boots and poles, all for $75. Sweet sweet deal.
