A month's recap
Sheesh, it's been over a month - where do I begin? When I last blogged, the movers were packing up my stuff in Boston to ship out to California. Since then, I have visited my grandparents in New York, spent two weeks at home, been in my brother Nik's wedding, helped my dad with his recovery in the few ways I could, flew across country, moved into my new apartment, bought a lot of furniture, hung out with my mom when she visited, turned 24, started work, and gone out on 2 dates. Phew! I don't really want to go back and go into a lot of details about all those things, so I'll just talk about the present.Work started 2 weeks ago, and I'm doing the 9/80 schedule, which means I work 80 hours over 9 days (instead of 10, like normal jobs), and I get every other Friday off. I don't like getting home after 6, so I will perhaps try to go in earlier, and it's also tough to fit in a good workout before it feels like bedtime. However, having a 3 day weekend every other week ROCKS. This past Friday, Liz and I went to Huntington Beach down near Orange County, and since it was Friday, it wasn't as crowded, the weather was great, and it was so relaxing to not worry about work and to not feel like I should be doing something else other than enjoying the beach. I can get used to this!
Work itself is going alright. It's been a little slow to start, but I expect that during the first few weeks at a new job. My group supervisor has also changed, and the new one started last Monday, so that's another reason for the slow start and perhaps why I have yet to meet many people in the group. It's been nice to have the MIT gang as well as old Georgia Tech friends at JPL to hang out with inside and outside of work. I also want to continue to meet new people at work and outside of work, so that we're not always hanging out with engineers!
It's been tough to post now that I'm out here working because I don't want to write at work, and when I get home, I don't want to spend any time on the computer since that's what I do at work all day. I'll try to keep this up for those of you out there who still read it though. :-)
Now I need to run to Trader Joe's for edamame because I'm making dinner for Gil.
